Pruning Program Announced

The WNC Green has announced a pruning program dubbed Pruning as an IPM Tool for the region.  This half day workshop will be held on March 20th at the NC Arboretum and participants will be able to view a pre-class power-point before coming to class.  Participants needing pesticide credits will be glad to know that 2 hours of credits will be awarded for the class.  ISA credits are pending and expected to be given as well.

Green Industry Pruning Flier

Gate fees at the Arboretum have been waived but parking is limited. You will be directed to park at the production greenhouse.  Please dress according to the weather and bring your own hand tools. Water will be provided.

Understanding and managing for environmental stress and pests. This workshop is presented in partnership with The NC Urban Forestry Council, NC Cooperative Extension, The NC Arboretum and Asheville Green Works. Speakers include Barbara Fair, NCSU Department of Horticulture, Anthony LeBude, NCSU Extension and Paul Merten, USFS. CEU's available: 3.0 ISA, 3.0 SAF and 1 NC Pesticide credit (LNDX). These include opportunities to earn pesticide credits, gain knowledge about pest identification, acquire information about pruning as well as to gain skills needed to prepare for the CPP exam. The latter 2 of these are now offered in both English and Spanish.

Shade Tree Pruning Workshop

Pruning Young Trees for Quality During Nursery Production
Wednesday March 19, 2008 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center

Pruning correctly early in production can increase the value of shade and flowering trees. Learn how at our hands-on pruning workshop at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center. This workshop is tailored for nursery workers responsible for pruning field and container grown trees. We will demonstrate the techniques, provide reference material for use later, and then you will prune
trees planted especially for this pruning workshop. All trees were donated as branched whips last year by Carlton Plants, Inc. They were planted with you in mind - so get out here and learn to prune!!! The workshop is being provided in both Spanish and English. We will meet at the parking lot in front of the Lathe House on the research station farm.
